Dead Sea Scrolls

Can you give me some info on these, what they found, and there significance?

The Dead Sea Scrolls are a wide assortment of documents found near the Dead Sea in Israel. Most notable is that they include many portions of the Hebrew Bible. They are significant in that they are the only known surviving Biblical documents predating the year 100 of the Common Era. Most likely they were written and hidden by a sect of Judaism called the Essenes. There are a great many scholarly works written regarding the findings and their significance. If you care to delve deeper, perhaps I can recommend a book on the topic for you.

Sincerely,
R’ Daniel Fleksher
