What did G-D mean when he said in Genesis 1:26 “let US make man in our image. Who is the US?
That’s an excellent question. How can the Torah say US if there’s only one G-d?
The answer is (from Or Hatzafon) that G-d wanted to teach us a valuable lesson. G-d consulted with his “underlings” – the angels that He himself created – before creating man. G-d didn’t really need their input, but he wanted to show us humans who can benefit from the input of our underlings how important it is. We should not feel high and mighty over those who may be “lower on the totem pole.” Rather, we should always be willing to accept the truth – even if it is not along the lines of our previous thinking – from anyone who presents it to us.
