How to Become Bar Mitzvah

A bar mitzvah is something that happens to a Jewish male the instant he turns 13 years old on the Hebrew Calendar. It is like lightning…FLASH, and it is done. It is the instant a Jewish male becomes fully responsible for his actions (and non-actions) under the Jewish covenant with G-d. Usually this is commemorated in special ways, an aliyah to the Torah, sometimes a party, and so forth. None of these commemorations are the bar mitzvah itself. As already stated, the bar mitzvah is something that just happens, not something a person does.
