I have a relative who was a very healthy man, struck tragically by a very rare disorder that has left him without the use of his legs. I was wondering if there are any texts that deal specifically with the loss of some faculty, from which I might be able to extract some inspiration for him? Any advice, including how I could go about searching for such a thing, would be greatly appreciated.

Try to remember that G-d ultimately does everything for the best even if His reasons aren’t apparent. It is easy for me to say this, I have full use of my legs. Somehow, we all have the G-d given strength to overcome all hardships which are put in our path. Your relative should try to keep busy, become more spiritual, etc. Doing things that will help him focus on accomplishing things in life that are truly important. This will ensure that he keeps his spirits up. I hope I was of some help to you.
