Forbidden Fruit and Creation

Question

When G-d planted the Grape Vine (Not Apple) in the Garden of Eden. G_d had to know it would be eaten over time. Why was it considered a sin and why were they expelled from Eden. What did G-d what from them? To exist innocent and simple only having fun like children? What is the purpose our creation?

Answer

Hi! Thank you for your interesting question.
I don’t think I agree that “G_d had to know it would be eaten over
time.” Things don’t just get eaten – Adam and Chava had to eat it. It
took a conscious decision on their part to do the wrong thing, just like
any wrong action taken on our parts. It’s not inevitable that we’ll do
wrong, nor was it for them.

Our main purpose in the creation is to develop a relationship with G-d.
We have mitzvos, commandments, to do, and doing them helps us to grow
closer to him. There are aveiros, sins, and they are forbidden because
they distance us from G-d. Adam and Chava chose to do something that put
a barrier between them and their G-d. It says right afterward that he
came “walking” in the garden, so to speak, but that they were no longer
prepared to meet him. All they could do was hide in shame. The story is
a real tragedy, and we’ve spent our whole history trying to recover from
it. Someday we will reach the stage where we are once more on a level to
be able to come closer and closer to our creator.

Question

Question – When G-d said let there be light. What language was G-d speaking or thinking and to whom was G-d speaking to.

Question – When G-d wiped out the human race with the flood was Noah the new Adam recreating the human race and did he commit the sin over again?

Answer

Hi! G-d is not physical, and so any notion of his “speaking” has to be
understood on his terms and metaphorically. When it says that he spoke,
the Ramban explains that that implies an effect on the world (as opposed
to “thought”, which has a implication that the impact on the world
hasn’t happened yet.) Our Sages say that the world was created in
Hebrew, Lashon haKodesh, because that language contains within itself
the true essence of the objects named.

There are numerous stages in the early history of mankind where people
did acts that created distance between humanity and G-d. Noah’s
drunkenness was one of them, along with Kain killing Abel, the tower of
Babel, and several others. And, from the time of Abraham, there were
those who began the process of bringing us back together.
