Moses in the Haggadah

Question

Why is Moses' name hardly mentioned in the Haggadah?

Answer

Moses' arguments with Pharaoh, and his bringing all the plagues on the Egyptians, didn't result in the Exodus until G-d Himself stepped in and smote the firstborn. As the Haggadah emphasizes, that plague wasn't brought about by an emissary: "I and not a messenger". The one mention of Moses in the Haggadah, "They believed in Ha-Shem and in Moses his servant", emphasizes that Moses played a secondary role. The emphasis teaches us that we mustn't rely on human leaders even if they are as great as Moses; we must trust that our redemption will come from G-d Himself.
