Purim

Question

When and how is Purim celebrated?

Answer

In most places, Purim takes place on the 14th of Adar; but in certain cities, including Jerusalem, it takes place on the following day (see Esther 9:16-22). It is celebrated by joyful feasting and giving of gifts. It celebrates the Jews’ victory over their enemies in the Persian empire, as described earlier in Esther Ch. 9.
