Question
When and why did the Christians change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday?
Answer
Changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday (the day on which Jesus was said to have been resurrected) was debated for a long time — as far back as the first Church council (Nicaea, 325). Some Christian sects, such as the Seventh Day Adventists, still observe Saturday. A major reason for the change was to clearly separate Christianity from Judaism.
