I am writing a paper about the Shema prayer and its importance and meaning. Can you please give me some examples of how the commands of the Shema are lived out in Jewish life?
The Shema prayer has three paragraphs. Paragraph one is an instruction to love G-d and to teach our children constantly about living properly as a Jew. It also speaks of Tefillin, which observant Jewish men don on their heads and arms during morning prayers, and Mezuzos, which Jews place on their doorposts. Paragraph two is a second rendition of the first paragraph with insight into the results of listening or not listening to G-d’s requirements. Paragraph three instructs observant Jewish men to wear Tzitzis (fringes) on their four-cornered garments which is usually done as an undergarment and also attached to a prayer shawl where it is worn during morning supplications. This paragraph also contains the commandment to always remember the Exodus from Egypt.
Thank you for the question,
