Question
Was the murder of David’s son Amnon by his brother Avshalom comparable to the murder of Abel by his brother Cain?
Answer
There are many differences between the cases of Cain/Abel and Avshalom/Amnon. Avshalom was angry at his half-brother Amnon for dishonoring his (full) sister Tamar, so he had Amnon killed at a feast. Cain was jealous of his (full) brother Abel beacuse Abel’s sacrifice was more acceptable, so he killed Abel personally. David and Avshalom were later reconciled (for a while), whereas there’s no indication that Adam ever saw Cain after he killed Abel.
