He Sanctified the Sabbath

Question

Why did God sanctify the sabbath?

Answer

The word “sanctify” really means to “set apart.” Gcd sanctified the Sabbath as a gift to Israel. It is a day imbued with the power to raise its observers to spiritual heights. Our Tradition teaches that Gcd allows us an additional spiritual dimension on the Sabbath so that the day itself, if observed correctly, can bring us closer to Godliness. The practices that govern the observance of the Sabbath all foster a feeling of specialness and separation from the mundane of the work week.
