If G-d made us, who made G-d?
Hi! Nothing created G-d; he did not need to be created. I think the basis for your question is that we live in a world of created objects, and of cause and effect. Everything is created by something else, and is made from materials that were there before. There are really only two possibilities, then: Either we just go backwards and backwards without end, or we have to say that there was something outside the system, that wasn’t created, that could bring the whole system to be out of nothing. That something, by which of course I mean G-d, is not a created object, and doesn’t fit the rules of things we’re used to.
I think that until the twentieth century, pretty much everyone accepted that the universe was a finite created object with a beginning. However, modern scientists began more and more to believe that the universe is without end and without need for any beginning or Creator. Towards the end of that century, though, science made an astounding discovery: The universe is not a stable, continuing system. Galaxies are flying apart from each other. And if we go backwards in time, we come to a time when they must have begun. Before that time, the “Big Bang”, modern scientists know that they have nothing to say.
So while of course not all scientists have become religious, it seems that the issue has come full circle. The universe no longer can explain its own existence, and presumably did not create itself.
Best wishes,
