I am constantly on diets. Although I am not fat I always have this pressure to be really slim. After all, in the world today, everyone is trying to be thin and look good. Is there something wrong with that?
If there’s any chance that someone isn’t getting enough to eat or if their diet isn’t providing all the elements for a healthy existence, then Jewish Law requires a reassessment. And perhaps one could reassess priorities if the primary reason for a diet is to fulfill someone else’s vision of perfection.
Perhaps, just to be sure, you might want to speak to a doctor about the diets you are on or would like to start – just to make sure there’s no chance you’re causing yourself any harm.
I doubt that you’re the type to do something dangerous, but I’ve seen enough people who do actually cause themselves damage that being extra safe and consulting a doctor is a wise decision.
With best regards,
Rabbi Boruch Clinton
