Purim for a Mourner

Question

A dear friend lost his father a few months ago. I am aware that he is not to engage in anything celebratory for the following 11 months as part of the mourning customs. What is the story with Purim? Does he exchange Shalach Manos (Gifts of food for Purim)?

Answer

He is obligated to send Shaloch Manos. His mourning doesn’t stop the obligation to have other rejoice. One should not send to him. His mourning says that he should not receive “extra” joy producing items just like he should not purchase a new suit etc.
