Relating to Angels

Question

What is the importance of Angels in Judaism? What is their relation to mankind? Is it possible to have a relationship (that is religious) with or commune with angels?

Answer

Angels are messengers. They are given assignments by G-d and they do those assignments, and that is all. If you attach wires and a battery to a light bulb, the bulb will light up. You can try to commune with the wires and the battery but you are wasting your time. It is the same thing with Angels.

Follow-up questions (2)

Question

Is there such a thing as a personal guardian angel in Judaism? If so, what is their purpose and is it possible to have a relation with a guardian angel. If not, how did this concept come about??

Answer

Do you remember Lot in Sodom? It took a malach (angel) sent by G-d to save him and his family from the Sodomites. See Bereishis (Genesis), Chapter 19 to read the story. When G-d wants someone protected from something, the protection is arranged. On the other hand, for whatever reason, sometimes no protection is to be afforded.

Question

I dont agree that one cannot communicate or see Angels, I certainly have seen an angel and I sometimes feel them around.

Answer

I didn’t say you can’t see an angel. In certain cases perhaps a person can see an angel. After all, we have examples in the Torah of angels being brought to Earth looking like people, such as with Abraham and Lot. You can see an electric spark as well.
