Abraham’s Tithe to Malkitzedek

Question

The bible tells us that Abraham tithed 10% of all that he had to Malkitzedek after he got his stuff back (Genesis 14:17-20) Was this the ONLY time that Abraham tithed? Did he tithe after that or before? And did he tithe to release his blessings and or get his stuff back?(To motivate the Lord to give him victory..?( Lot etc..)

Answer

I’m glad you realize that it was Abraham who tithed, and not Malkitzedek. Many people get that one confused.

Everything happening there is symbolic. Abraham gave much more than a tenth, for he had just fought a war and was entitled to the spoils of that war. Abraham gave the 10th and also would not take the spoils. Abraham wanted it to be clear that his wealth came only from G-d and not from the benevolence of any man. The 10th was symbolic of the 10% tithe which future generations would be required to give to the Tribe of the Levi.
