What is a dream? What is the meaning of dreams according to Jewish beliefs?
Dreams certainly are significant in Jewish belief. According to our Sages a dream is 1/60 of prophecy. In Tractate Brachos of the Babylonian Talmud there is a large section relating to various dreams and their meanings (Chapter 9). However, it is necessary to have any specific dream interpreted by a Torah scholar. In addition, many do not advocate interpreting dreams in the present day and prefer the concept “Tammim t’hiyeh im hashem”, that one should trust that G-d plans for one’s benefit and not overly concern themselves with what the future might bring.
