Blood Transfusion

Question

Is it okay to receive a blood transfusion? What about Lev 17:10 “And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among them, that eateth any manner of blood, I will set My face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.”

Answer

I can understand why one might see a transfusion as similar to consumption, but they are indeed different. The prohibition is specifically against eating blood – that is, putting it in your mouth and passing it into your digestive system – not against blood transfusions.
