Honoring Parents

Question

Someone told me honoring ones parents has to do with food and clothes, and the rest is all about reverence. What were they talking about?

Answer

There are two aspects of what we must do for our parents, “respect” and “awe.” Respect entails those things we do for them, giving them food, clothes, helping them out. Awe generally incorporates those things which we do not do – not to sit in their place, not to contradict them etc.
