Who composed the four main sections of the Birkat Ha’Mazon (Grace After Meals), and when where they composed?
Answer
The first three are attributed to Moses – although, clearly, they could not have been composed by him in their current format which has clear references to much later events and places.
The fourth section was composed by the Sages after the dead of the Bar Kochba rebellion were allowed to be buried (several years after they were killed).
