Hebrew From Right to Left

Question

Why is it that no other language in the world starts from the right side other then Hebrew ? Is it because G-D wants us to be different from all other people or is there any other reason for it. I know arabic also starts from right side but I guess that the Middle Eastern languages copied from Hebrew.

Answer

I don’t know the answer, but here is a possible idea I thought of after reading your question. The very word Hebrew comes from the word “ever” or “ivri”, which means side. Abraham was called Abraham the Ivri. In its most literal sense this is because he came from the other side of the river. But our sages tell us that it is because the whole world was on one side, and Abraham was on the other side.

Perhaps then, the Hebrew language, the language of Ivrit, is also the “other side language.” It is written from one side, while all other languages are written from the other.
