Question
Do you have to be born in Jerusalem or Israel to be considered a Jew? Or can anyone become a Jew if they choose to?
Answer
According to the Torah, a person is Jewish if they are born of a Jewish mother. Alternatively, a person may convert to Judaism by commiting themselves, in front of a Rabbinic Court, to the observance of all Biblical and Rabbinic Commandments. This is a very lengthy process and involves years of study.
Best of luck in your journey.
