Miriam’s Daughter

Question

I wanted to find the name of Miriam’s daughter. I found that she was married to Caleb. Caleb had a daughter Achsah. Somewhere I read that Achsah was a child of Miriam and Caleb.

Answer

Although our Sages teach us that Miriam was married to Caleb (Sifri Beha’aloscha 78), and the book of Joshua (15:16) relates that Achsa was the daughter of Caleb, there do not seem to be any sources that state who Achsa’s mother was (perhaps she was the product of another wife).

A point of interest, the Hebrew root word of Achsa is ka’as, or anger, since all those who saw her would be angry that there wife was not equally as beautiful (Temurah 16a).
