Question
How old is the Earth? Is science accurate?
Answer
Jewish years are counted from the end of the first week of creation. (This year is 5766) How old the earth is however, is a serious question and one of major debate in Jewish thought.
At the core of this is “How long was the first week of creation?”
The answers range from Billions of years that encompassed all of the processes that science teaches (i.e. Big bang evolution etc…) culminating with the end of the first week of creation 5766 years ago. Or the opposite that the world was created by G-d to look as if it was billions of years old 5766 years ago.
