Vegetarianism

Question

I’ve recently been studying the torah for a school project, and I have found that Judaism may be right for me. I am a vegetarian, and I was wondering what your stance on vegetarianism is. Thank you.

Answer

It depends on why you choose to be vegetarian. If you are doing it because you find that it is healthier for you or more economical then Judaism would not have a problem. However, if the reason for your choice is that you feel that it is wrong to kill animals for food, then that would imply that you are more compassionate than Gd who has allowed us to eat meat. We would, then, have a problem with that philosophy.
