Question
Did any people go to heaven without dying?
Answer
The best-known examples are Enoch (Gen. 5:24) and Elijah (2 Kings Ch. 2), but the Talmud (Kallah 3:23) lists at least seven other such people: Serach the daughter of Asher, Bisiah the daughter of Pharaoh, Hiram King of Tyre, Eved Melesh the Ethiopian, Eliezer the servant of Abraham, the grandson of R. Judah the Prince, Jabez, and (some say) R. Yehoshua b. Levi. A list of nine such people in Derech Eretz 1:18 also includes Enoch, Elijah, and the Messiah.
