Nowadays, can one take a vow to become a Nazirite (see Numbers Chapter 6)? How would one observe this vow and how long is one obligated in such a decree?
Thank you for your questions. If, nowadays, someone takes a vow to become a Nazirite, the vow would be effective. Consequently, that person would not be permitted to consume products derived from grapes, cut their hair, or come into contact with a deceased person. Technically, this only lasts for 30 days, unless otherwise specified. However, until our Temple is rebuilt and we can once again bring the necessary sacrifices at the conclusion of the process, it would last indefinitely.
Take care,
Rabbi Aaron Tendler
