Question
What is the source of the name "Nissim"?
Answer
The name doesn’t seem to have been used by any of the sages of the Talmud or by any of the Geonim; it seems to be of Persian origin. There were several famous rabbis named Nissim — for example, Rabbi Nissim "Gaon" (ca. 990-1062) in Kairouan, and Rabbi Nissim Gerondi (ca.1310-1375) in Spain.
