Is faith in God the same thing as trust?
It is possible to have faith in G’d while not fully trusting Him to do what you want. One could argue that taking out an insurance policy shows a lack of trust whereas it does not detract from one’s faith. Many people believe in G’d but take all precautions anyway. This is not necessarily a bad thing. One should not trust in miracles and one cannot know which is the better result anyway. One might think that one would be better off recovering from an illness whereas, for reasons known only to G’d, it might be better if one did not recover. This is why Jews pray that “G’d fulfils our desires for good.” We add the two words, “for good”, since we don’t really know what is good for us and what is not. We trust G’d to fulfill only those of our desires that will lead to good and that He not fulfill those of our desires that will lead to bad.
