Dvar Torah and Bar Mitzvah

Question

In layman’s terms, what is a “Dvar Torah” as it relates to a child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Answer

I’m not sure I understand your question, but a Dvar Torah at a bar/bat mitzva is a Torah thought that ties in with the boy or girl coming to the age of adulthood. Usually the thought is taken from the Torah portion of the week that is read the shabbat of the bar/bat mitzva.
