Question
If I get called up to the Torah, may I use my Yiddish name, or does it have to be a Hebrew name?
Answer
Many people do get called up to the Torah with their Yiddish names. Do you have a given Hebrew name? Do you know the actual name that you were given at your brith? If you do, then that is the preferable name for you to use. If you were not given a Hebrew name then or do not know if you were or what it was, your Yiddish name is fine.
