I want to know the Torah’s view on virtual violence that is shown in today’s computer games and movies. Although no actual violence is done is it permitted by the Torah ? Even the rap songs and other music use abusive language so as a Jew am I allowed to listen to these songs and see movies that depict violence? Thank You.
Exposing yourself to perversion is damaging to your soul. Your mind can also allow you to permit activities that you see on the grounds that such activities are commonplace. A refined soul would not derive pleasure from watching such activities. However, I cannot say that it is outright forbidden if the viewer knows that the acts are simulated and not real. Of course, I am talking about the kind of violence that you refer to and not to pornography. Pornography would be forbidden.
