What are the laws pertaining to a Kohain today regarding who he may and may not marry? Can a Kohain marry a woman who has had premarital sex with a Jew?
A Kohain may not marry a divorced woman which includes a woman who received Chalitza (if the first husband died without children and his brother performs the Chalitza ceremony with the widow) which is like a divorce. He may also not marry a convert or a prostitute. Into the last category falls a woman who has had intercourse with a gentile (In this context “prostitute” is a legal term, and is not meant to imply that anyone who has a relationship with a non-Jew is considered a prostitute as the term is used in the vernacular) However, if all of her sexual experiences were with Jews, she is not barred from marriage with a Kohain.
