What does our religion say about the Evolution? What do you answer when people say that they have proof for the evolution? And what about the dinosaurs that they have found bones from? Thank you very much for taking your time to anwer my questions
Hi,
Thanks for sending in this very important question. You are asking about evolution. I will tell you that it would take me pages and pages of writing for me to do justice to this question. It has tremendous value and you need to look further to find out the answer.
In short, I personally follow the belief that evolution might be true or it might not be true. I do not know nor does anyone else. There are legitimate arguments to be made for both cases. When I say that evolution could be true I do not mean that it could be true the same way that modern science defines it. I do not believe for a second that we are descended from monkeys. Quite the opposite, Humans were given a spiritual gift that animals were not. However, the order of creation and the time table for creation can both be six 24 hour days as well as billions of years at the same time. This theory is based on Einstein’s theory of relativity and is backed by many great thinkers including a past physics professor at MIT, who is also a very religious Jewish man who teaches at yeshivos in Israel. His name is Dr. Gerald Schroeder. He has written many books. If you are interested in this concept you need to read “Genesis and the Big Bang.” It will be worth your while, especially if you are scientifically and mathematically minded. Just know that Torah is open to both being true at the same time with slight modification. There is a tremendous amount of Jewish source material on this subject and Dr. Schroeder is a great place to start.
Be Well,
Rabbi Litt
