Ask the Rabbi: answers from Project Genesis rabbis

Marriage and Synagogues

Question

Is it a requirement for a member of the synagogue to be married? I have heard people say that a Rabbi should have a wife before becoming Rabbi.

Answer

One does not have to be married to belong to an orthodox synagogue. Rabbis are not required to be married, but it would be considered a very positive thing that the rabbi have a wife.
