Do the Jewish accept Genesis as actual fact or parable? When was Genesis written?
Answer
It is fact that must, like the entire Torah, be interpreted. We believe that the world was created in six days, but what is the meaning of a “day” before there is an earth and sun? These questions are the subject of much debate among scholarly Jews.
Genesis was written, along with the other 4 books, in ca. 1300 BCE. This is the received tradition, which I personally accept.
