What are Rabbi’s and what do they do?
A Rabbi is a person who has devoted their life to serving G-d and being his instrument to serve and teach and lead G-d’s people. In order to become a Rabbi, a person must go to Rabbinical college. When they are ready, they typically sit down for an exam which is very difficult and tests their knowledge in a wide variety of areas such as, Jewish Law, Bible, Talmud, interpersonal relationships, and many others. When the person passes the exam, they must then be ordained by some official ordaining “body”. Usually, it is from his Rabbinical college, but there are others as well. In many ways, a Rabbi is a minister, but of the Jewish religion. In Orthodox Judaism, the Rabbi has a much greater role in the lives of their congregants, and are often sought to help guide a person through many personal as well as day-to-day questions.
