Question: I am wondering if there is a reference or tradition that states where Abraham was located during the Genesis 15 covenant episode. Was his encounter with Gd, and the splitting and arranging of the animals located at Beit El? Moriah? Hebron? Is there a Jewish tradition that identifies the specific place?
Answer: Abraham set up his home in Chevron (Hebron) – see Genesis 13:18 and again in 18:1. After the “covenant of the halves, the next thing we read about is the Jewish circumcision requirement which Avraham performs in his tent, in the Plains of Mamre, in Chevron.
