Question: What is the first commandment of the Ten commandments given to us by Moses? I was told by a friend that the current translation of the bible doesn’t have the actual first command. Is this true and what is it?
Answer: From the commentary of the Artscroll Stone edition of the Pentateuch:
First Commandment: To have faith in Gd’s existence, and that He is eternal and has complete and unfettered power.
Although stated as a simple fact rather than as an instruction to do something, virtually all the commentators reckon this as the positive commandment to believe in the existence of [our] Gd as the only Gd.
