Question: I want to change my negative, evil thoughts to good, positive and productive ones that are more selfless. Do you have any suggestions on articles or books I could read?
Answer: I’ve noticed that there are many, many approaches to changing feelings and that you will likely have to find the ones that work for you. Here is a link to a cognitive approach.
Others have written about negative feelings as an expression of low self-esteem (see the writings of Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski).
My sense has generally been that my negative thoughts and feelings are really about myself as projected on to others. Having a negative feeling then is a window into how I am feeling about myself. Looking at myself I can more readily sense that which I need to work on or dislike about myself. Sometimes being so demanding of others is a way of deflecting the unrealistic demands that I place on myself and points to the need to break down the task into more manageable bites.
Best wishes in your growth!
