Accepting People

Question: I am troubled that I have a hard time understanding people. I notice in my life how quickly people are to judge others. I certainly do not claim to be beyond reproach, but I also try not to judge people too harshly and try to find the potential in them. I just cant reconcile with people who are quick to judge others, but who become defensive when others judge them. How do we deal with people who are like this because I find myself becoming frustrated and irritable with people like this.

Answer: It has been my experience that the things that most bother me and sit on my mind are the very things that I am meant to work on within myself. Take every defensive person that you meet and ask yourself what I am meant to learn from seeing/meeting/working with this person. If it bothers me then it is a window into who I am. That’s not bad. Since we are here to learn more about ourselves it is rather a wonderful tool for self understanding.

Best,
Ephraim

  1. Thank you very much for your response. I must admit that it was not really what I wanted to hear, but after thinking about it I know that you are right. I find that I too am judgemental of the people who judge others and therefore I am the same as them. I am now making all efforts to correct this about myself, although it is very difficult. Again I just wish to say thank you very much.

I am inspired by your honesty and ability to take an honest look at yourself. I am carrying your inspiration with me and I hope I can be worthy of it.

    Best wishes,
    Ephraim
