What is the meaning of the name Yehudit? Where is her name found in the bible?
Yehudit means a Jewess. It is from the Torah and its male counterpart is Yehudah, which was one of the tribes is Israel, but also means “Jew.” The famous Yehudit was from the story of Chanukkah where she went and beheaded the Assyrian Greek general after pretending to establish a relationship with him and giving him cheese and alcohol. When the army saw the general’s head they retreated and the Maccabees were victorious. She is a hero.
