Yom Kippur

Repentance and Staying Happy

I have always been a cheerful person, but now I feel very upset I don´t know why. I go to Torah lectures, I try to read Torah Articles, but I don´t know what is happening with me. Maybe is because the season of repentance is almost ending and I couldn’t change anything. What can I do?

This time of year often brings with it some depression. This is because we confuse our desire to be perfect with the commandment of repentance. The two do not go together well.

I suggest that you might want to look at some of Rabbi Dr. Abraham J. Twerski’s books on guilt and self-esteem.

My best wishes for an uplifting Yom Kippur. May you merit to feel deeply cleansed by the One Who Loves us most dearly.
