Question: Why do we eat Hamantashen (a filled triangular cookie) on Purim?
Answer: The hamantash is three-cornered to signify that the man named Haman was “tash” (weakened in Hebrew) by the merit of the three patriarchs (as symbolized by the three corners of the pastry). This is similar to the Magen David symbol (the Star of David) which also has two sets of three corners, one triangle pointing up and the other pointing down. This signifies the three characteristics of the patriarchs through which we relate up to God, and God relates down to us.
