The Great Rabbis

Rabbi Yitzchak of Acco

Who was Rabbi Yitzchak of Acco?

R.Yitzchak (b.Shemuel) of Acco was born in Eretz Yisroel in 1250 C.E. When Acco was conquered by the Egyptians in 1299 he apparently remained in the area, but in 1305 he was in Italy, and afterwards he settled in Toledo, Spain, where he died in 1340.
He was the author of several Kabbalistic works; some of them still exist in manuscript, but none of them have been published yet. He is well known for his visits to R.Mosheh de Leon, and afterwards to his widow, in an unsuccessful attempt to discover a manuscript source for the Zohar, which R.Mosheh was circulating.
