Question: We’re doing a report and want to use this quote as the title, “Live well. It is the greatest revenge”. Several websites have said it is from the Talmud and later referred to in a book by an English Clergyman, George Herbert. Would you know where in the Talmud this quote comes from so we can add more information about it?
Answer: I’m afraid that attributing this quotation to the Talmud is likely an error. I have no memory of ever coming across it (although, given the size and subtlety of the Talmud and my own imperfect memory, that would hardly be an absolute proof) and consulting my various thematic indexes has produced nothing even close.
I hope you do find something useful.
With regards,
Rabbi Boruch Clinton
