Wearing Torah Crown

Question: A friend has offered to loan me a silver Torah crown to wear as part of a “kingly” costume. I am uneasy about doing so for fear of being disrespectful and/or worse. On the other hand, it is my understanding that “objects” , graven or otherwise, are not worshiped in Judaism, so there may not be any disrespect after all. Please let me know what you think.

Answer: Even though you are right that objects are not worshiped as part of Judaism, when an object has been designated to be used for a holy function, it acquires a sanctity and should not be utilized for mundane purposes. Therefore, you should turn down the offer.
