A Jewish name is very important. The Torah explains that a name describes the essence of a person. Therefore your name is bound with your soul. Names have deep meanings. However your English name has no spiritual value, and therefore doesn’t add anything to you spiritually. Additionally, a Jewish name helps one identify as a Jew.
