Is it possible for a Jewish father to perform the religious component for the wedding of his daughter?
The basic components of a valid marriage are a bride and groom, a simple wedding band, and two valid witnesses that are male and not related (i.e. unrelated to each other, the bride, or the groom). Therefore, a father, by definition, may not participate as a witness of the marriage. However, the officiating rabbi is often there to assure that all of the procedures of the ceremony are done properly. A father may have that role at the wedding. Additionally, there are other religious roles (e.g. saying of the blessings) at the ceremony that the father may perform.
