Can you give me two reasons why Jewish-Orthodox can’t eat a bacon cheeseburger?
Sure:
1) Bacon is inherently not Kosher. The Torah prohibits the meat of a pig outright.
2) Eating meat and milk together is also prohibited by the Torah, though this, unlike the first, is derived from the written text but not spelled out so explicitly.
I understand that bacon is a no no… However, where specifically does the prohibition of mixing milk and meat products come from? Granted I am no expert on the Kashrut laws, but the statement you may “not boil a kid in its mothers milk” does not mean, to me at least, that you cannot mix milk and meat. Is this prohibition a “fence around the Torah” or is there a specific place that it is stated?
